Help and guidance on buying your safe
There are three key questions to ask yourself before you buy a safe ...
1. What do I want to protect?
- Documents?
- Cash?
- Jewellery?
- Computer data?
2. From what? Fire, theft?
- If your answer is "From theft", what is the value of the items to you in either monetary or sentimental terms? Our safes are graded to give you an indication as to the amount of jewellery and cash that will be covered by insurance companies if held in the safe.
- If your answer is "From fire", are the items paper or plastic media?
- Security safes only protect from theft if bolted down. The more they cost, the more secure they generally are.
- Underfloor safes are particularly secure, but must be encased in cement.
- Fire safes only protect paper from fire and are generally not burglar-proof unless they can be bolted down. Please note that most low-price fire safes cannot be bolted down.
- Media or data safes protect plastic media and anything else from fire, but security from theft is lower.
The NeedASafe range of security safes is designed to protect cash and valuables from theft and burglary. All security safes show their "Cash Rating" (which indicates the amount the safe is insured to hold) where applicable.
It is essential that you select a product with the appropriate rating for your requirements. The amount of cover can vary between insurance companies and locations, and may be higher or lower than the recommended rating. Cash ratings are given as a guide only as insurance companies ratings vary. Please contact your insurance company for more advice on this.
Notes on
fireproof safes:
The NeedASafe fire / media safe product range is designed to protect all types of magnetic data (discs, tapes, cartridges, negatives, any plastic-based media, and so on) in the event of a fire.
